  About Us

The Texas City High School Choral Department consists of approximately 145 students in four performing concert choirs: Master Chorale, Vox Aurora, Cantus Leonis, and Bel Canto; and the show choir "The Soundsations." The Choral Department has enjoyed success at University Interscholastic League (UIL) competitions, UIL Solo and Ensemble contests and Texas State Solo and Ensemble contests for many years. They also have won numerous in-state and out-of-state competitions.

Students in the Choral program pride themselves in being well-rounded individuals. Every year its membership includes several members of the National Honor Society; Superintendent Academic Excellence recipients; participants in men’s football, baseball, basketball, tennis, swim, track and soccer; and participants in women’s volleyball, golf, soccer, tennis, softball, and track. Many of our students are also involved in UIL academics, speech, debate, theatre, cheerleading, Stingarettes, yearbook, journalism, student council, and Senior Steering Committee.

Master Chorale

Master Chorale is the most advanced level of concert choirs at TCHS.  This is an auditioned select group of students with a strong background in music reading, theory, voice production, and overall choral performance. This group performs a variety of styles including classical, pop and vocal jazz. This ensemble learns the All State Choir Music auditioned in the first and second round of All State auditions. TMEA and UIL music selections are taught as well. This ensemble has been in exsistence for several years and holds many UIL Sweepstakes Ratings.

Vox Aurora

Vox Aurora is an auditioned select group of treble students with a strong background in music reading, theory, voice production, and overall choral performance. This group performs a variety of styles including classical, pop and vocal jazz. This ensemble learns the All State Choir Music auditioned in the first and second round of All State auditions. TMEA and UIL music selections are taught as well.

Cantus Leonis

This is the choir for tenor/bass voices that are new to the Texas City HS Choirs. Students in this ensemble are in grades 9-12. An audition will be required for voicing purposes only. Cantus Leonis will perform a variety of literature and will sing at all concerts. Occasionally, this ensemble will collaborate with the tenor/bass voices of the Master Chorale. A strong desire to sing and a positive attitude are the only prerequisites.

Bel Canto

Bel Canto is a lyrical style of operatic singing. This choir is open to all treble voices new to the Texas City HS Choirs, and an audition is required for voicing purposes only. Bel Canto will perform a variety of literature and will sing at all concerts. The choir will occasionally combine with other treble groups. A strong desire to sing and a positive attitude are the only prerequisites.

"The Soundsations" (Show Choir)

The Soundsations Show Choir is an auditioned show choir which performs a variety of vocal styles from madrigals to jazz and pop music. These students focus on components of advanced vocal technique, proper rehearsal and performance etiquette, and giving their audience a diverse multicultural musical experience that aligns with the musical world today. Dancing and Singing is involved in this ensemble. Students will perform in schools and in public.
